The Aerial Experts

The Dronesurvey Asia team consists of experienced, qualified, and fully insured drone pilots, as well as experts from an extensive range of backgrounds and professions. We have hundreds of hours of drone flying and operational experience. Today’s all-in-one drones may seem like toys, but they are really small civilian aircraft. They occupy the same airspace as manned aircraft, and they present some of the same risks over built-up and populated areas.

In addition, we also know the rules, regulations, and regulatory hurdles. We apply for and obtain all the necessary permissions, and take care of the paperwork. We know how to plan and execute missions, flights and data gathering programs. We are members of leading Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Associations around the world, and we make it our business to stay on top of the latest technologies and developments in this fast-moving industry.

All Bases Covered

We mitigate risks and ensure safety at all times. We undertake thorough site inspections and point-by-point risk assessments beforehand, looking out for and noting potential hazards. Our systems cover all aspects of on-the-ground and in-flight safety.

Our drones are not toys – they’re aircraft. We ensure all UAVs are properly serviced, tuned, balanced and maintained to the highest standards, and we keep detailed, comprehensive flight and maintenance logs for every mission.

In addition, all Dronesurvey Asia pilots have US$10 million in third party liability coverage. In short, we worry so you don’t have to.

Qualified Experience

Dronesurvey Asia operates with only experienced, fully qualified drone pilots, proper location application clearances, and meticulous attention to detail. All our pilots hold the CDP-C (Certified Drone Pilot – Commercial) Pilot qualification, recognised by the UK’s CAA, the Hong Kong CAD, and most European aviation authorities for the safe commercial operation of drones and unmanned aerial systems.

In addition, we are well versed in operating within Hong Kong’s crowded urban landscape, where space (and airspace) is often at a premium, and little margin for error.

Service Packages

Dronesurvey Asia offers complete on-site and post-processing survey packages, tailored exactly to your needs. This includes the aerial site survey itself, plus all image post processing and orthomosaic map generation, optimised to your requirements and ready to view.

Alternatively, we can supply you with ra range of formats, including 3D model (.obj), point cloud (.las), or GeoTIFF (with different projections), ready for your own in-house post processing.

Our flexible pricing models cater for both ad-hoc, one-off missions, or for multi-mission projects where ongoing surveys are needed for long term monitoring and management control.

Structural and Industrial Inspection

For completed structures, infrastructure and industrial facilities, there’s the need for ongoing inspections, both for regulatory requirements and for safety compliance. Inspections of this nature are always a challenge, especially for tall, hard-to-reach structures, such as cell phone towers, power and phone line pylons, bridges, and skyscrapers  – and inspection can usually be costly!

With new high resolution cameras and direct video downlinks, drones are the ideal platform for industrial and structural inspection, especially in such hard-to-access locations.

Combined with a thermal camera, our drones can help detect deeper structural imperfections, water or fluid leaks, and other issues that may not be visible to the naked eye.

3D Modelling and Visualisation

The best orthomosaics and 3D models are generated from a combination of nadir (straight down) images and oblique image arrays taken at different  angles around a site. Textured 3D models can be downloaded or previewed online.

On top of that, you can use our 3D rendered orthomosaics as a base to generate point clouds and GIS data for import into 3D visualisation programs such as AutoDesk Recap 360, ESRI ArcGIS, Bentley ContextCapture or other visualisation applications for further modelling and visualisation.

Construction Site Monitoring

There’s a lot of work important being done on sites today that could be made more efficient by the use of drones. Prospective sites ready to be developed need to be surveyed and terrain mapped. An understanding of the topology and geology are essential for initial planning and design.

Once construction is under way, there’s a lot to keep track of;  sites under development need careful management, including ongoing surveying, monitoring of work in progress, inventory and supply management, and optimisation of resources.

Satellite imagery can be used to as part of the process, buts it’s often of low resolution, and not up to date. Many satellite images date quickly, especially urban areas in Hong Kong, and are not an accurate reflection of what’s on the ground right now.

By utilising the latest generation of drones along with cloud-based image processing systems, Dronesurvey Asia enables professional-quality aerial imagery in a way that is faster, and more cost-effective than ever before – and not just once, but repeatedly over time. This repeatable, precise flight ability makes drones the ideal platform for near-ground mapping – something that’s virtually impossible in Hong Kong with conventional aircraft.

Our GPS-enabled aerial platforms enable us to quickly and efficiently create accurate, georeferenced 3D maps, orthophoto projections and digital surface models of your site – and repeat the process over a period of weeks, months or even years. You’re also able to access web-based tools that make measuring and tracking of stockpile and excavation volumes quick and easy.

Measurements can be made directly from within a web-browser, then easily shared, or archived to track progress over time so you can precisely monitor construction progress, and share the data across multiple partners or sub-contractors anywhere in the world. Depending on the site, mapping and post-processing can be complete and delivered within 24 hours.

And of course, safety is always an issue on any construction site, so reducing the number of people that need to visit a site, and/or be on site to analyse progress, check inventory, and survey structures is always going to be positive benefit for on-site safety.

Sample Map

Marketplace Construction Progress, Florida: This is an example of a Location Map, or a multi-layer map of the same location. Click the layers icon in the upper right to view the different date layers. The February 20 layer was georeferenced to an existing basemap while other layers are referenced to that for maximum alignment accuracy. Location Maps allow users to define what base layers and overlays are shown and it what order. This will continue to be updated as new layers become available and construction progresses.

Construction Site Mapping

Combining high resolution cameras with GPS-enabled aerial platforms, Dronesurvey Asia is able to quickly and efficiently create accurate, georeferenced 3D maps, orthophoto projections and digital surface models of your site, including volume and distance measurement and multiple data layers at levels of detail never before imagined. The measurement and tracking of stockpile or excavation volumes is now quick and easy.

Our drones enable the creation of detailed, precise orthomosaic maps, with image detail down to at least 5cm per pixel. From these, you can quickly and easily extract elevation and volumetric data, or monitor progress over time.

Volume-measure-demoSpeed up site development, monitoring and survey processes using drone-captured orthomosaics with pinpoint accuracy.

What’s an orthomosaic? Essentially, a grid of stitched-together, geometrically-corrected photos that accurately represent a portion of the Earth’s surface.

Digital Ground Control Points

Mapping-GIF-animation-smallFor additional precision, Dronesurvey Asia can set and record ground control points. This improves orthomosaic accuracy to within 5cm in x, y and z or less.

On top of that, we can export your maps using custom projections for any EPSG code, making it faster and easier for you to analyse your maps in a local coordinate system of your choosing. Different projections are used to minimize distortion for different purposes. Some map projections, such as those used for large, global maps, aim to distribute the amount of distortion fairly evenly across the globe. Other projections are intended to minimize the amount of distortion in a specific area – hence local projections.

We can offer GeoTIFF export in two standard projections:

  • WGS84/EPSG:4326 (a widely-used projection for desktop software like ArcGIS)
  • Web Mercator/EPSG:3857 (used by most web applications such as Google Maps)

Or let us know your preferred EPSG projection and we can work with that.
