One of the more recent applications of the latest drone technologies is in damage inspection as part of an insurance claim process. DroneDeploy currently has an interesting case study from France, where drones were used to survey and map a resort location which was badly damaged in a fire.
The upshot for the insurance company was that the drone data helped determine that the fire started outside the property, so the claim was going to have to be lodged with another company, not the resort’s own policy.
This ability to rapidly gather, analyse and distribute drone-captured aerial data ended up saving the insurance company €99,985,000, a claim that would have to filed with another insurance company, off the property.
In conclusion, the high degree of accuracy that drone maps provide helps improve the likelihood of identifying the cause of an accident.
